Friday 06-27-2008 9:00am CT
Barack Obama keeps telling us he is about change, but why does his energy speech in Albuquerque sound familiar?  Maybe because Jimmy Carter told us the same thing in 1977 in his address to the nation and again in 1979 in his "Malaise" speech.  Listen to the bytes below.

Thank for making the 2008 Tax Cut Coalition Rally at the State Capitol a huge success!  Despite the frigid temperatures, snow, and the reports in the media, thousands of you (despite media reports) made a big statement to our Minnesota government to lower our taxes.

The Truth About Minnesota's Tax Ranking
Friday 05-02-2008 5:22pm CT

Our friends on the left have been trying to confuse folks on a variety of subjects for years.  So why should Minnesota's real tax burden be any different.  In response to our very successful Tax Cut Rally as well as your individual demands for tax relief, a number of liberal groups and legislators have been sending out very misleading messages in an effort to redefine our state's burden, such as measuring taxes as a percent of income instead of a percent of the total tax collected.  Think of it, as long as you keep working and earning, taxes can keep going up just as much as your income and according to this fundamentally flawed analysis your tax burden hasn't risen.  Why what's next, New York and California as low tax states?  Well they might just be under this silly attempt to minimize Minnesota's tax burden.

The fact is when you look at who is paying what percentage of the total taxes collected (such as the top 20% of income earners -- making $76,000 or more -- in this state paying a whopping 71% of all income taxes paid), Minnesota’s ranking is much more accurately reflected. Which is one reason why the following groups all rank Minnesota much higher in state and total tax burden. So see for yourself who's telling the truth on taxes in Minnesota, the following list of multiple sources or your favorite Minnesota liberal.

Rick's Reign of Error - Part Deux
Wednesday 03-05-2008 3:47pm CT

(Note: all quotes are from news stories posted on
KARE11 website or Mr. Kupchella’s postings and/or emails.  Relevant links are displayed parenthetically next to appropriate passages.)

Well, good for Rick.  He and the KARE 11 staff up against lowly me.  At least that makes it fair.

While of course “taking no position on whether a gas tax is or is not a good idea,” Rick and the gang at we-KARE-oh-so-much-11 found it necessary to take a knee-jerk position questioning not the gas tax proponents facts and figures, but those of us who are critical of this latest Minnesota tax grab.  That is an operating premise worth considering when you’re watching the news around here.

Unfortunately, Mr. Kupchella’s other premise, the main one of the most recent story (“Gas Tax: Where Does the Money Go?”) has a fatal flaw, at least as it relates to little ‘ol me.  He suggests that viewers have become convinced that Minnesota’s gas tax is being diverted to bike paths and light rail “through talk radio” and other less incendiary means.  Odd, this is the same tactic employed by Rep. James Oberstar and State Sen. Steve Murphy when they were forced to set up their straw men after I criticized their endless ambition for tax hikes.  The only problem is I never said it.
